Women and Blockchain: A coffee with Gabriela Chang

To enter the world of cryptocurrencies, we have all needed someone to open the door for us. That person must be an enthusiast, be there for any doubt and have infinite patience.

So it is not surprising to find a person with these characteristics being the host of the “Women and Blockchain” meetup. Today we have a coffee with Gabriela Chang.

Why hold a Blockchain Meetup for women?

Well, I wanted to make a call to women; because in the ecosystem we are still few. In fact everything started because in Ethic Hub, the project in which I participate right now, I am the only woman. Although not for this the meetup is exclusive, quite the contrary. The reason to call it “Women and Blockchain” is to make a direct call to the female collective to know this technology. And it worked Given the success of the first meeting held in December in Teamlabs, we launched a second called “More women and Blockchain”.

The offer also influences, since I present it as “Introduction to the basic concepts of Blockchain”. Due to the nature of my work in the Ethic Hub platform, I have the facility for it.

What is your job?

I am the Content Editor of the platform. This means that I have to “translate” all the technological jargon into “Christian”.

Before this comment we can not stand the laughter. And it is that those who are familiar with the blockchain ecosystem know that language is complex, which drives away those who are not integrated in this parallel world.

After laughing, Gabriela continued:

One of the attendees to meet up told me that it was curious to notice the difference between the questions of women and men … Men ask more about Bitcoin, its value and how to invest. In contrast, women, in general, ask more about the operation and its possible applications. A typical question is “How can the complete information fit in each node?” And provide a comfortable environment where asking, has been the main thing.

But is not creating a group of women counterproductive?

The truth is that I thought a lot, which could create rejection at one extreme or another, but I thought it was more important to approach women. And when the truth is that it went well, also thanks to the experience of being in constant contact with people.

An anecdote is that when I launched the first meeting, in the Telegram chat, somebody jumped up claiming “And why only women!” I replied that it does not say “only women”, that everyone is welcome, only that I wanted to approach a group in particular and what better to call him by his name; At that moment the boy understood. But the interesting thing was that other chat men went out to defend the meetup … because it is clear that women are needed, for some reason there are barriers to entry that we do not detect and this is a good initiative to try to eliminate them.
