Zcash, the best algorithm for GPU mining
Since this peculiar crypto coin came out on October 28, 2016, Zcash and his algorithm equihash, would change the mining with GPU being a great advance in the use of computer components and graphics cards that we still thought were no longer profitable for algorithms like Eth-hash or dagger-Hashimoto, making it possible to reuse them, examples like the r9 280x used massively along with the r9 390, since they have a hash of about 300 hashes/sols more or less and quite fair consumption.
Like Bitcoin, Zcash has a total fixed offer of 21 million units and as of today is only mined and 2,041,231 ZEC in circulation, a very important data since its price in these 10 months amounts to currency at 288 $ having exceeded the $ 400 in Poloniex and there is still a long way to go as Zcash mining is now possible via GPU. Zcash is still resistant against mining with ASIC-based mining circuits, due to the Equihash algorithm.
Although its price was quite fluctuating, the difficulty of mining with Zcash was maintained at very good margins to work with no more worries than adding power with new GPUs, achieving good gains in weeks and especially in the month of May 2017 where he made a great career of promotion and many sold to recover investment or have liquid capital with profits of up to 150%, thus being able to receive benefits of the last months of mined saved.
Many other crypto coins have been emerging in a short space of time since the Equihash algorithm supplements other algorithms with more complicated and higher difficulties, such as ethereum, Litecoin, or Dash with DaggerHashimoto, Scrypt and X11 algorithms.
Zcash uses new zero-knowledge cryptographic (zk-SNARK) tests to protect both the amount and the recipient in special “armored” transactions. This increases the set of potential inputs and outputs for a given protected transaction, potentially to each armored address in the Zcash lock chain that an adversary can not exclude through other sources of information. Although the probability that a shielded input corresponds to any previous shielded output is not uniform (for example, older addresses are less likely to be in use), no information on this is filtered by the transaction itself, apart from Which can be deduced from the synchronization and metadata (number of armored transfers, etc.). In principle, this is as great as the anonymity established for any public blockage can become, as a transaction must be recorded.
Zcash also allows for transparent transactions, which provide no privacy protection whatsoever. This is because armored addresses lack certain features (such as multi-signature folders) and hardware requirements to generate a shielded transaction (a copy of the block chain and ~ 3 GB of RAM). In this, way it is possible to correlate transactions when a transparent address sends a given amount to a protected address and later that amount is transferred to a transparent address. What was private now can be deduced through indirect knowledge thanks to knowing the “inputs and outputs”.
It is also possible for a network adversary to observe IP addresses to correlate transactions. VPN s, Tor and I2P can be used to hide IP addresses and there are ongoing efforts to enable Tor by default.
A lot of work and mining to build with GPU
Both AMD and Nvidia are up to date on drivers for blockchain computing and on energy efficiency in their processors, but it is Nvidia that works best with Zcash Equihash giving an excellent result in performance and power of mine, giving in its 1070 About 450 hash / s and about 180w of consumption and in the maximum range as is the 1080ti with its powerful 690 hash / s and an excellent consumption of 250w.
AMD does not have it as well since the consumption in this algorithm rises to about 310 hash / s by 220w in a rx580 and in the new Vega 400 hash / s with a consumption of more than 250w. Of course, they have to improve their performance if they want to continue selling GPU’s to new miners.
The market that knows best to take advantage of this algorithm is the Chinese market, since they are mounting true processing farms with an equihash algorithm using Nvidia graphics cards and are even buying much second-hand equipment, all to take advantage of the maximum efficiency and mined power.
Zcash is a new and very powerful project directly related to privacy and anonymity, offering a few days ago developers of a scholarship program for projects that help improve the operation of its platform.
It is certainly a very broad and new algorithm making the projects based on equihash different from what there is today.
Zcash mining using Nvidia graphics cards is the best cost – performance option because they are the most efficient in power consumption and GPU utilization. Another way to assemble Zcash miners is to buy cheaply used cards that for a time we can continue to use in mining and other alternative currencies with minor difficulties that in a few months may surprise us with price increases, everything will depend on what we are willing to invest and amortize.
Migration of AMD Miners to Nvidia
The consequences of these migrations from Amd to Nvidia are becoming increasingly noticeable, with a shortage of Nvidia cards, as miners do not want to continue paying high electricity costs as it is a major expense in the daily calculations of mine algorithm that sometimes Exceed the clean amount of benefit, all this makes us think about how to be more efficient with all the resources we have and execute them in the best possible way.
If we want to get the maximum juice to all our GPUs whether AMD or Nvidia and we have the latest drivers, motherboards that support more than 6 cards and second-hand models that we want to reuse for mining, between 2 or 3 years Of old, Zcash is one of the best paid currencies and that it uses well all the resources of the equipment.
This is only the beginning, we have been with Zcash for 10 months and things continue to improve for the mining community.
I leave an example that I did very well to use several models of graphics cards with AMD, the software of his Sir Claymore Zcash:
ZecMiner64.exe -zpool eu1-zcash.flypool.org:3333 -zwal tudireccionzcash.myminime -zpsw x -allpools 1 -i 5 -mport 0
And for Nvidia I recommend using the Nicehash miner, Excavator, it auto configures from nicehash.
What are you waiting to try and experience for yourself?
